Sponge Capital

Sponge diving has been done here since the early 1900's. There is still a fleet of 5 dive boats that are sponge diving. They go out in the Gulf for up to three hundred miles and are out there for 5 weeks at a time. Many of the divers came here from Greece, so there is still a very large Greek population. The Greek restaurants and stores are great, you feel like you are in downtown Athens.
