September 1st.
What a thrill it was to cross the lake early on Saturday morning. The seas were calm and the sun was at our stern, the winds were 5 to 10 mph. and from the south-east. We couldn't have had a more beautiful morning. Not being able to see land for a while was a first for us, we have never made this wide of a crossing. It was 80 miles across and we cruised in the 25 mph. range.
About 30 miles out we could start to see the Chicago skyline, what a thrill !!
